Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I find the individual I am looking for?A. There are a number of ways, but the simple Search function provides the most straightforward method. This can be performed on any page on the website by typing in a name in the data entry windows and clicking on the Search button. The Advanced Search form allows you to enter information about the individual you're researching and presents you with a list of possible matches from the database.
You can search using the First Name, Last Name, or both. The system
will return a list of names based on the search criteria.
If only one record
exists with the name entered you will be taken directly to that record.
When
searching for a married woman you may use either maiden name or married name.
Use the radio button found below the Last Name field to designate which name you
are using.
Also, click Surnames for possible different spellings of your ancestor's surname.
Q. I cannot locate someone, how do I get them added to the site?
A. You may use the Contact Us form to send
information to the administrator or you may use a more extensive Family
Information form. The button for Submit Family Info is found on the
home page.
Q. How do I find an individual's ancestors?
A. Once you locate an individual, the easiest method is to click the Ancestors tab. This will show you a graphic display of both paternal and maternal ancestors.
Once the ancestor chart is displayed, click on the arrows located at the far right ancestor to see additional ancestors. There are a number of formats to choose from (Standard, Compact, Box, Text, Ahnentafel, and Photos & History) to display ancestors. Try clicking on the various options and see which one works best for you.

Q. What are the small icons beside a descendant’s name?
A. Once you are in the Descendants Standard or Text format, clicking on the small Descendancy Chart icons will display a specific branch of descendants from the originally selected ancestor up to the descendant next to the icon.
Q. Is there a way to tell if two individuals are related?
A. Yes, the Relationship tab will show a graphic display of all the people between two relatives. To use this function, locate the first individual and then click the Relationship tab. Then click the Find button to locate the second person to be displayed. Once you have the two people selected, click the Calculate button to display their relationship.
Q. The Timeline function looks interesting. What is it?
A. A timeline is displayed for an individual when the Timeline tab is clicked. The timeline shows important events in history that occurred during the life of an individual. It gives you a unique perspective of what was going on in the world during the lives of your ancestors.
Use the Contact Us form to submit Event information. Examples would include Education, Military Service, Relocation, etc.
Q. If I see a mistake in the information presented can I correct it?
A. The best way to submit a change or update is to go to the page of the individual in question and then use the Worksheet tab to bring up the family worksheet. It will be populated based on the data on file and you can then make changes and submit the new information to the administrator.
You will also find the Worksheet tab on the Family page. In that case the family information will be populated onto the worksheet and you can make changes and send the form to the administrator.
Q. I see the site supports photo albums, how do I upload photos?
A. You may upload photos to the administrator who
will post them to the website. You will find an Upload Photos button
on the home page as well as Upload Photos/Documents tabs on both the Person's
page and the Family's page.
Please make sure all photos have captions identifying the people in the
photograph.
Q. How else can I help?
A. There is a button on the home page titled Help Wanted. We will post information there, such as an unidentified photograph. Periodically review this area to see if you can be of assistance.
Q. What are bookmarks and how do I use them?
A. Bookmarks are a way of keeping track of pages that you might like to re-visit at a later time. You can easily bookmark any page on this website, and a personal bookmark folder will be created just for you. To summon your bookmarks, click on the Bookmarks tab on the drop down menu on any page. They are not erased by your departure and will still be present when you return to this site in the future. Your bookmarks are stored until you delete them but are only available on the computer you were using when they were created.
